Roneen Hicks grew up in southwest Florida and was an only child until the age of 16. She had one childhood pet (a cat named Boomy) who was orphaned by a feral bobcat. She grew up playing barefoot outside and climbing orange trees to get the juiciest oranges. She also worked alongside her grandmother and father at an old motel that eventually became a home for the elderly where Roneen would come home from school and help care for them. She got married young and found a contest in a magazine to submit a short story for children and immediately decided she loved writing.
However, soon after, she became a mom of three amazing daughters so the thought of writing got put aside but deep down she always knew she would get back to it one day. However, soon after, she became a mom of three amazing daughters so the thought of writing got put aside but deep down she always knew she would get back to it one day. She just didn't know what that looked like at the moment. She felt the urge to homeschool her children and one of her favorite things to work on with her kids were creative writing stories. She also wrote lots of poems to her children and husband. She forgot about her dream until one day she was walking her dog and saw another dog walking towards her on his hind legs and she felt God put on her heart that she could write a story about that.
She immediately went home and created a story around it by using her beloved dog Doug and her love for Jesus as it was important for her to honor God if she was going to write. This story eventually became Doug the Doodle’s Dilemma. Roneen is now living on a small hobby farm called The Sunday Farm Life in Central Florida and has a new boo
She immediately went home and created a story around it by using her beloved dog Doug and her love for Jesus as it was important for her to honor God if she was going to write. This story eventually became Doug the Doodle’s Dilemma. Roneen is now living on a small hobby farm called The Sunday Farm Life in Central Florida and has a new book hopefully launching in 2026 about a ticklish donkey named Woody. She and her husband Jeff have 3 dogs, 4 cows, 1 steer, 2 miniature donkeys, 9 chickens at the moment and 8 beautiful grandchildren and counting. She enjoys spending time with family, gardening, and creating children's books.
